Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a safe, evidence-informed therapy with origins in Traditional Chinese Medicine over 3,000 years ago. Developed to support the smooth flow of energy, or Qi, throughout the body, acupuncture has evolved alongside modern medical understanding and is now recognized for its effects on the nervous system, circulation, and the body’s natural healing processes.
By gently inserting fine, sterile needles at precise points, acupuncture can relieve pain, reduce muscle tension, and promote relaxation. It works in part by stimulating the release of neurotransmitters such as endorphins and serotonin, which help modulate pain, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being. Acupuncture also helps regulate the body’s inflammatory response, supporting healing, reducing swelling, and improving recovery from injuries or chronic conditions.
A typical treatment begins with a brief consultation to discuss your symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals. Needles are then carefully placed at selected points on the body, which may include local or distal points depending on the condition. Most patients find the process calming and often experience deep relaxation during the session. Additional techniques may be incorporated to enhance results, including cupping therapy (to improve circulation), Gua Sha (scraping massage), electroacupuncture (mild electrical stimulation), Tui Na (therapeutic massage), and infrared heat therapy (deep warming).
