At Langley Physio and Massage Clinic, dry needling / IMS is performed only by licensed physiotherapists and is included as part of a physiotherapy treatment.
Physiotherapists are able to provide dry-needling techniques (acupuncture/IMS) upon completion of a recognized post-graduate dry needling course. There are various schools of thought surrounding acupuncture, however, our therapists tend to use the needles to help release tension in soft tissue. By inserting the needles into particular trigger points, we are able to break up areas of muscular tension very specifically and effectively, from the inside out.
Although the needling techniques can be somewhat painful, most patients describe it as the “good” kind of pain and tell us that it is well worth it in exchange for the significant pain relief they experience. As always, your therapist will communicate with you and adjust the intensity of the treatment based on each person’s individual tolerance.
